Dogleg Stairs are those without wells or spaces between the outer strings, the return strings and rails being in the same vertical plane, and both are framed into the same newel post and turns. The stairs occupy less space than any other variety with the exception of the spiral, and for this reason are the kind mainly used in cottages and smaller houses.

These pictures show a recent installation of a staircase within an attic space. The staircase is built in American White Oak to preserve the feel for the roof space area in which it is installed. The staircase has been carefully positioned wih in this 17th century English cottage.

The staircase was pre constructed at our workshop in Hythe, Kent before being re- assembled on site.
